If the ESP-Mosaico main firmware version differs from the ESP-Claw component version, does that mean the upgrade failed?
Not necessarily. The ESP-Mosaico main firmware is developed based on ESP-Claw but has its own version number, so the main firmware and component versions do not need to match. Check each corresponding version separately; a version difference alone is not enough to determine that the upgrade failed. Whether the upgrade succeeded should also be verified against the target firmware and the device’s actual operation after the upgrade.
Where is the web-based real-time log entry point in the ESP-Mosaico factory firmware? What should I do if an older version does not have it?
The web console of factory firmware version v0.4.0 and later provides a Log/Real-time Log entry on the left. If an older page does not have this entry, update to firmware that includes this feature at https://mosaico.espressif.com/zh/firmware-update/ . When troubleshooting speech recognition, open the log first, trigger recognition once, and collect the error from that attempt. Logs are used to locate the problem; they do not mean that updating the firmware can resolve every speech-related fault.
Can ESP-Claw on ESP-Mosaico connect to a self-hosted model service?
A self-hosted model service can be configured, but the service must provide a compatible interface supported by the ESP-Claw backend in use, such as an OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible interface. Enter the corresponding service address, model name, and required API Key, and ensure that the device can access the service. The model still runs on the host providing the interface; the model files are not deployed to ESP-Mosaico.
Can I use a USB-C-to-USB-C cable when flashing firmware onto ESP-Mosaico from a computer?
Yes. The key requirement is that the cable supports data transfer. A USB-C-to-USB-C data cable can be used, but a charge-only cable cannot be used for flashing. Once connected, use it in the same way as a USB-A-to-USB-C cable
Which GPIO is the PIR human-presence detection signal on the ESP-Mosaico Multi-Function Interaction Sub-board connected to?
See ESP-Mosaico Multi-Function Interaction Sub-board (https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-dev-kits/zh_CN/latest/esp32s31/esp-mosaico/user_guide_interact.html#esp-mosaico) documentation: when plugged into H2 on the left, the PIR corresponds to GPIO4; when plugged into H1 on the right, it corresponds to GPIO5. The PIR uses the AS312 and outputs a motion-detection level. For wiring and development, consult the table for the actual slot; do not apply the same GPIO number to both sides.
After flashing custom game firmware onto ESP-Mosaico, why does it still launch the game after restarting instead of returning to the original factory interface?
After the game is flashed as native application firmware, the device boots into that firmware. The game is not installed as an additional application that can be exited from within the original factory interface. To restore the original factory features, install the corresponding factory firmware through https://mosaico.espressif.com/zh/firmware-update/. The Lua/Skill extensions in ESP-Claw are a different development approach; the installation and exit behavior of these two approaches should not be confused.
What are the differences among ESP-Mosaico's Vibe Mode, Recovery, and BOOT download mode?
Vibe Mode is the device's application installation and maintenance mode; Recovery is the technical name used for this retained firmware. When Vibe Mode firmware is present on the device, you can hold down the AI button while powering it on to enter Vibe Mode. BOOT download mode, also known as ROM download mode, runs the download program built into the chip.
How can ESP-Mosaico firmware be uploaded to Ideas in a form that supports wireless flashing?
Package the firmware as an .irisfw package. When uploading firmware in Ideas, select “Add Iris Firmware,” attach the file, and complete the submission. To use wireless updates, the target device must have Vibe mode firmware installed and running; an ordinary .bin file cannot be turned into an Iris firmware package merely by changing its file extension. Submission for review and approval are different states. After uploading, check the actual submission status.
Where is the source code for the ESP-Mosaico factory firmware project?
The source code for the ESP-Mosaico factory firmware project is available at https://github.com/esp-mosaico/esp-mosaico-claw. If you need to compile it yourself, prepare ESP-IDF and the submodules according to the README and dependency requirements of the selected source code commit.
Can the ESP-Mosaico factory firmware connect to a voice recognition service that is not preset by changing only the API Key or configuration file?
No. Simply replacing the API Key or changing the endpoint will not enable the factory firmware to support an ASR service that has not yet been adapted. Use a service provider integration already implemented in the firmware. To connect to another service provider, you need to modify the source code to implement its authentication, audio transmission, and recognition result handling, and then compile and verify the firmware. An ASR interface cannot be replaced directly as though it were a compatible large language model interface.
How should ESP-Mosaico v1.0 and v1.2 be connected to the matching rear-mounted charging module?
The matching charging module is designed for the rear contacts on v1.2; v1.0 can connect through the USB port.
Where can I access the ESP-Mosaico Ideas Center?
The entry point is https://mosaico-ideas.espressif.com/ . The “Ideas Center” page on the ESP-Mosaico official website also provides this link, where you can find creative applications from the community.
Where can I view the serial logs of ESP-Claw on ESP-Mosaico?
You can view the device’s serial logs through the UART (TX/RX) in the expansion interface on the right side of the device.
Does ESP-Mosaico support both Classic Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy?
Yes. ESP-Mosaico's ESP32-S31 main controller supports Classic Bluetooth (BT, BR/EDR) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Having these hardware capabilities does not mean that every firmware provides a pairing interface or supports all Bluetooth profiles; check the firmware being used to determine which features are available.
Does the BSP need to be updated if the same firmware must support both ESP-Mosaico v1.0 and v1.2?
When the same firmware must support both versions, check and update to a BSP that includes the corresponding adaptations. The BSP should identify the hardware version and handle the relevant differences.
